As time slips by and we close in on our expected departure date we will find ourselves in greater need of your prayers.
* Physical and emotional needs-
Satan will continue to discourage us during this time of preparation. Please pray for our health as we deal with the things that we need to accomplish. Pray for our emotional needs as it is easy to feel alone on this journey.
* Family relationships-
Pray for our marriage, and pray for Tyler. This can and will be a stressful time and we want God to brings us even closer as a family as we deal with the stresses of life. Pray that we will continue to grow spiritually and that we can be example of Jesus to others. Pray that we will nurture our friendships as those we leave behind will be our connection back home.
*Communication-
Pray for us in the area of language learning and sharing of the Gospel. Also pray as we begin the task of raising support we would be able to effectively communicate the mission God has laid out for us.
* Impacto-
Pray for Impacto Ministry as they prepare for our arrival. Pray for each person by name and ask God to use each one to strengthen the ministry. Pray that we will become an effective part of this team and not a burden.
*Guatemala-
Pray for this nation and it's people. Pray that God will work in hearts and that disciples will be created that will share with the people of Guatemala.
*Central Church-
Pray for our church and the staff. Pray the pastors and elders will continue to have the vision of Jesus to reach the world.
Dusty, Tyler and I appreciate your prayers and friendship. We love you and pray that God will bless everyone that reads this post.

The other 90
When we hear the words stewardship in church, we brace ourselves for the message of giving. Maybe you are one of the small percentage of Christians that obediently tithe. You sit straight in your seat feeling proud because you know this is directed at others. We are reminded that all we have belongs to God. Do we really believe He is only concerned about 10% of that? I think God has a stake in everything we have. He wants to know you are also glorifying him with the other 90%. So, how are you handling the other 90?

I am a Christian...
WHEN I SAY, "I AM A CHRISTIAN"
When I say, "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting, "I’ve been saved!"
I'm whispering, "I get lost!
That's why I chose this way"
When I say, "I am a Christian"
I don't speak with human pride
I'm confessing that I stumble—
Needing God to be my guide
When I say, "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong
I'm professing that I'm weak
And pray for strength to carry on
When I say, "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success
I'm admitting that I've failed
And cannot ever pay the debt
When I say, "I am a Christian"
I don't think I know it all
I submit to my confusion
Asking humbly to be taught
When I say, "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect
My flaws are all too visible
But God believes I'm worth it
When I say, "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartache,
Which is why I seek His name
When I say, "I am a Christian"
I do not wish to judge
I have no authority...
I only know I'm loved

Taking a different path
We are brought up these days as dreamers. The dreams that have been ingrained in us usually involve large homes, great jobs and big bank accounts.
We often describe at some point coming to a fork in the road of our life, and we picture that fork being two pronged. Maybe that fork really has three prongs. One prong is the turn that gets us off course onto a dark road of sin and a sure path to hell. The middle prong looks a lot like the dream we had for our lives. There is nothing wrong with being prosperous, we can still serve God on this path. The third prong is labeled "a different path", on this path God ask you to put aside your earthly possessions and to use your life to bring glory to him. This path may be a little bumpier along the way, but the rewards and blessings you receive along the way make the journey all the more enjoyable.
This is path our family will be taking and we seek you prayers along the way.
What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? (Matthew 16:26 NIV)

No passport required!
Today we received many blessings by being available for God. We proved that mission work does not always require a plane ticket and passport. Sometimes it can be as simple as a few families climbing in their cars armed only with a few bag of groceries. Just a few minutes drive from the parking lot of our church are people that need the love of Jesus. I hope as we indulge ourselves this week with food and shopping we will have the people we met today in our minds and hearts. I hope we realize just how much we have been blessed and that we will continue to use the blessings God has given us to bless others. We have so much to be thankful for!

Comic book hero
I grew up reading comic books, and always wished I could be one of the heroes. The heroes always overcame evil with good. One drawback of being a comic book hero would be that the things you were saying or thinking would be floating over your head in a balloon pointing at you. Am I bold enough to advertise to the world those thoughts and the things I say? I don't think so, I would rather keep those things to myself.
Don't fool yourself, God doesn't need a balloon to see inside you. He knows your every thought. He knows if the things you say are building up others or tearing them down.
Speak deliberately this week, think before you speak.
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.
(James 3:9, 10 NIV)

I heard you went on a mission trip to Guatemala, how was it?
It was life changing! God really taught me.....
He can use all of us for His glory! In the simplest terms God ask us to love others and make disciples. This week we were able to do this everyday. We came in contact with almost 1500 children in Guatemala City and in the Lake area and we were able to show them the love of God. We came along side churches in Guatemala that were taking responsibility for VBS on their own for the first time. We provided some crafts, songs and hugs, but the teaching was being done by the church youth. Most teachers were teens but some were as young as nine years old. The children were attentive and well behaved. God was always ten steps ahead of us. It seemed we always ended up with just the right amount of just what we needed, snack, crafts, beanie babies, regardless of what it was God provided.
The unity of our team was amazing. It is always awesome to see how God uses the gifts of each individual to maximize the effectiveness of the group.
Thank you to all who supported and prayed for our team.

Jars of clay
2 Corinthians 4:5-12
Why would anyone hide a treasure in a jar of clay? Clay jars are not very sturdy perhaps cracked, chipped and damaged. Kind of like us, at least like me. I am a cracked and damaged person and I hope my treasure, the light of Jesus shines outward through those cracks showing the world that God is not looking for a flawless person. Don't wait until you are worthy of Christ love, because that day will never come. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23

For every season under Heaven
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
This week marks the end of another summer, of warm days, vacations, cookouts, pool parties and all the other activities we associate with this time of year. Now we look forward to the changing colors, cool evenings, warm sweaters and Fall activities.
Our lives consist of seasons also, some may come and go in the blink of an eye. Some seasons of our lives pass and we wish we could bring them back for a do-over. We watch our children grow, then regret missed opportunities. We lose friends or family and wanted just one more chance to tell them we love them. Some seasons of our lives were filled with so much fun and laughter we wish time could have stood still.
Life will always be a cycle of hot and cold times. Our challenge is to realize God is with us during those cold times of loss, despair, and depression as well as the warm times of joy, friendships, and jubilation.
Acknowledge God during your seasons, thank Him for the blessing of the warm times, and thank Him for His comfort during the cold times.
2Corinthians 1:3-7
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

The greatest show on earth?
To what extent will churches go to draw in the masses? Tonight I was watching a television show about a company that builds fish aquariums. One of the featured projects was a 57,000 gallon aquarium in a church. This project took over two years to complete and currently is the home of around 600 fish. Over the aquarium is the verse "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men". It would probably make me ill to know the total cost of this project including the salary of the full time marine biologist required to maintain it.
Thousands of children will die today of preventable disease and malnutrition, and how can a church use the money that people have obediently given to have a "Sea World" in the lobby.
Father forgive us of our extravagances, our selfishness, give us a heart for the things that break your heart.

Be Alert!
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1Peter 58 NIV
Satan does not want you to be obedient to God, he does not want you to share the Gospel. This enemy does not want you to be a good husband or wife, a good father or mother. He is on the prowl looking for cracks in our character that he can get a claw into. Once he can scratch your surface, he will make you doubt yourself, your faith, and your Savior. Unless we fully rely on God will remain victim to the devil's schemes.
Today I had the opportunity to participate is an activity that I am not accustom to, manual labor. As a result of this activity I received blisters on the palms of both of my hands. The painful blisters remind me of the pain our Savior endured upon the cross bearing the burden of my sin.
Jesus is my protector, my shield against the evil one.
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4

Missions Sunday
Today Central Church celebrated missions Sunday. 129 people representing 11 short term mission trips to 9 countries on 4 continents were recognized in the morning services. Why would 129 people leave the comfort of Collierville, Tennessee to travel to far away places? They did not do it for self recognition, but to bring glory to God. Pastor Frey took us on a whirlwind tour through the Bible from Genesis to Peter to show us God's intent for us. We were created to bring glory to Him. God blesses us so we can be a blessing to others. We were challenged to begin living like a missionary this week, and to start by noticing the people in our life. This week we are missionaries to our neighbors, friends, and coworkers.
Take time this week to be intentional in your relationship with others, reflect the love of Jesus to those you encounter.

" If you want to be perfect"
In Mathew 19, Jesus told the rich young man, " If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
That word perfect in the text would imply full development, growth into maturity. The young man was not at that point yet, even though he saw himself as a good person that kept the laws, Jesus let him know that was not enough.
Are you there?
Are you willing to give it up for Jesus?
Is He saying we have to give everything away?
I don't think so.... I believe Jesus knew that the young man loved his wealth more than he loved God.
What do you put above God? What would Jesus ask you to give up?
God blesses us so we can be a blessing to others.

What is Hope?
In our world today, hope is a verb, an action, defined as “a desire or wish”. Something we “hope” will happen. The hope that we have in God is a noun; it’s a possession and is used as a noun in the Bible many times. "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jer 29:11) and “My hope comes from the Him” (Ps 62:5). It’s nothing we have to wish will come true, we just have to accept the gift. Hope is the truth that we have an eternity in heaven with God at the end of this life. Being filled with God’s hope shows all those around you that you know how this story ends – and you’re excited about it!

Jesus is my BFF
Colossions 3:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
We have come to a time where we are in consant communications with hundreds of people at all times, via phones, text, social media. Speaking for myself I am constantly checking these throughout the day and night. The first thing I do when I wake is to grab that smartphone to see what is happening within my circle of "friends". Many of which I could not pick out in a line-up. There is never really anything exciting that could not wait. You know, I also have a Bible sitting on the nightstand beside me. How might my day turn out if that was the first thing I grabbed and checked to see what God had to say to me. What if I started my day focusing on "things above" rather than earthly things. I wonder......
