I grew up reading comic books, and always wished I could be one of the heroes. The heroes always overcame evil with good. One drawback of being a comic book hero would be that the things you were saying or thinking would be floating over your head in a balloon pointing at you. Am I bold enough to advertise to the world those thoughts and the things I say? I don't think so, I would rather keep those things to myself.
Don't fool yourself, God doesn't need a balloon to see inside you. He knows your every thought. He knows if the things you say are building up others or tearing them down.
Speak deliberately this week, think before you speak.
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.
(James 3:9, 10 NIV)
